Passive Vibration Damping (ENAE639)Aerospace Engineering Department, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt Fall 2007Lecturer
Hours per weekCourse Schedule: Tuesday 3:30 PM Lecture: 2 hours per week Pre-RequisitesFundamentals of structure vibration. ObjectivesInstructional Goals: The goal of this course is to introduce the graduate students to the concepts of passive vibration damping using traditional and smart materials as well as redesign concepts. By the end of the course, the student should be able to analyze and design a damping mechanism for simple structures to satisfy certain objectives. DescriptionENAE 639 is designed to introduce the high undergraduate or graduate students to the techniques of passive vibration damping of structures. The course introduces the fundamentals of viscoelastic damping (unconstrained and constrained layer damping) Then it introduces the students to the properties of piezoelectric materials and their applications in passive vibration damping. Finally, the course introduces the concepts of periodic structures and the effect of periodicity on vibration propagation in structures. |
